Building Conservation Workshop at Medieval French Buildings: Participants to learn traditional building skills while helping restore 15th century French buildings

Boulder, CO June 18, 2004 -- In its final workshop of the 2004 field season, Heritage Conservation Network is offering the opportunity for people to step back in time and help rebuild ancient structures for a new use. At the workshop in Chenedouit in Normandy, France, participants will be working at a vernacular house and a communal bread oven, replacing the thatched roof and learning stone carving skills. Participants have a choice of attending for one or two weeks during the period September 12 - 25, 2004.

Each workshop session consists of five full days of demonstration, guidance and practice under the tutelage of Jacob Arndt, a mason and stonewright based in Wisconsin and France. Additional workshops are also planned at the site, with the goal of converting the structures into an artisan training school.

Pre-registration is required. The first session is schedule for September 12 – 18; the second for September 19 – 25; and participants may attend consecutive sessions. The cost of each session is $950, which includes lodging, insurance, lunches and project materials. Air fare is not included.
